The Australian songwriter’s latest single, “RUNAWAY,” displays a rare skill for wrestling obvious emotion — in this case, naked nostalgia — into sound. skunkz raps over a distorted, palm-muted chug. It is a blend of hip hop and rock influences along with trap, punk, and dream pop. It stands out and is unique. The fact that Skunkz adds another layer of soft sadness — is proof that we can long for the past, even when we’re not far removed from it. But the vocal here is the key. The chorus plays cleverly with the tone of the song. It’s deep and it’s dark. Skunkz uses music as a means of reflecting emotions and thoughts. He tells a story while experimenting with his sound. Skunkz is also one half of “Living Hell” – a collective featuring Kid Rot as well. Its music is like no other and a voice for the underground circuit. They even released their latest single titled “Run Ur Mouf” with features both Kid Rot and Double M. It will be interesting to hear what Skunkz plans to release both independently and collectively. There is always room for change and Skunkz demonstrates that with his unique and vibrant sound!
