Nashville Hip-Hop artist Cerebral Cortex (CC) has made a big splash in such a short time, securing quite the attention from fellow listeners, and even landing a feature with well-known Queens rapper Grafh. With only a handful of releases thus far, Cortex has displayed a propensity for razor-sharp wordplay, an upbeat persona, and the drive to succeed. Meanwhile, his airtight flows and pockets owe themselves quite gracefully, preparing Cortex for even greater heights. Cortex has recently released his second album titled MDM which is an abbreviation for Most Definitely Mixtape. The album features 10 hard-hitting records that allow listeners to explore the many layers of Cerebral Cortex. It feels somewhat of a back and forth between different ideas and feelings as well. The album blends different elements of reflection and emotion quite cleverly. There is a sense of variety with song after song that feels almost cinematic. Listeners get the chance to delve into the many sounds of Cerebral Cortex. Songs like Figure 8 and Don’t Owe Me feel somewhat ruthless and aggressive but certainly, emphasize the use of complex rhyme schemes and flows. While songs like Memories and The Library have a more personal tone to them and explore subject matter in a more reflective manner. Cortex clearly aims to bring something new to the table and this album proves just that. His voice, flow, and lyrical content fit perfectly with the tone or groove of instrumentals. In fact, Cortex managed to produce 8 out of the 10 beats off the project and did so impressively. Each song is unalike, which creates a new experience song after song. Cortex seems to treat each song like his first. The drive and passion are very much there. Listeners can expect a follow-up project that expands on MDM but also a separate stream of music that will be titled War Tapes. Make sure to show your support and stream MDM available now on all streaming providers and Bandcamp as well. Follow Cortex through his journey and come up as one of Nashville’s most prominent artists out there!
