Mak11 is a Canadian recording artist who is as consistent as his next single, a spark of perfection if you may. The St. John rapper’s latest release is ‘Care Package, Vol 2’ EP with the help of Hippy Junior. Mak11 also released his previous album ‘Mr.11’ this past year as well. With a collage of singles and projects these past few years alone it certainly shows the commitment he has for his craft. Dozen Donuts recently interviewed the upcoming rapper and dove a little into the creative process and approach to the music.

How long have you been creating music and why did you choose to purse it?

Mak11: I’ve been making music since I was young, from being introduced to it through piano and drum lessons and playing in bands to when I decided to pursue my passion of being a hip-hop artist because it suited not only my musical interests more than any other genre, but my interests and many people around me as well. I became an officially recognized artist in 2018 but I began making hip-hop music in 2012!

Who are your influences?

Mak11: My influences as a hip-hop artist are diverse, ranging from earlier artists and groups who helped build the culture in the 1990s and 2000s such as Big L, Mos Def, Nas, Mobb Deep, Hieroglyphics, Biggie Smalls, Gang Starr, OutKast, and more, to more modern artists that have kept the authenticity and lyricism of hip-hop music alive; such as the big names like Lil Wayne, Eminem, J. Cole, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Rocky, Meek Mill, and independent artists like Sir Michael Rocks, Curren$y, and The Underachievers, as well as some of my favourite artists who are sadly no longer with us – Nipsey Hussle, Mac Miller and Chinx Drugz. I’m definitely influenced by new and upcoming artists as well and always love hearing new rappers with something new to bring to the table!

Do you have any future releases or projects you anticipate?

Mak11: I am releasing a new collaborative project “Care Package, Vol. 2” with Hippy Junior on November 19th, as well as another full-length solo project “Nostalgia” this December stacked with features! You can also look forward to plenty of new MAK11 releases and collaborations in 2022!
