Dance music currently has an obvious problem – clubs are empty. Savvy DJs and producers have instead been using the temporary hiatus to lay down new tracks and explore new directions for the future. Australian house producer Tom Thumb is bringing something new to the table and sparking quite the interest. In the last year or so Thumb has released two separate singles and a noteworthy album as well. Released in August 2020, Patchwork serves as the first full-length project panned by the young Australian native. Thumb delivers 09 beautifully crafted records that take listeners on a voyage in its manner. Each song is different from another and creates an experience on its own. Opening the album is “Heartbeat” Slowly building the chord progression with an undulating vocal sample laid over the top of the track. The song transcends with the details of a rumbling bassline (perhaps a play on to its title) and humming refrain. It’s an infectious club tune sure to keep dancefloors shaking all night long. The 6th song “Slow Dance” is a truly hypnotizing tune led by futuristic synths and punchy basslines. It’s an intoxicating track that will have any house lover in beat-induced heaven, full of funky chords patterns and an equally captivating feel. With “You’ve Gone Away” rounding out the album, it’s a banging house heater showcasing the talents of Tom Thumb. Led by a pounding bassline, it’s a body-shaking record that will be ramping up the energy levels of dancefloors worldwide. “Daydream” concludes the album with a trancelike tune with a thumping bassline and atmospheric vocals that go hand in hand with the rattling percussion we slightly hear towards the end of each cut. Overall, the album certainly packs a dynamic range for sounds and shows the potential of Thumbs himself. We certainly enjoyed his debut album very much and look forward to any new music he may have planned. Best of luck to you Tom!
