Australian musician Pheroe is a shining example of the mixed or diverse sound that is slowly growing within the music industry today. His latest release is titled Tantrum, a five-track EP that offers both a dynamic range and tone for the music. Each song is well put together and expresses a different idea. The EP is raw, where its unpolished delivery of lyrics shows an unrestrained expression of emotion. It portrays somewhat a loss of care and control that complements the often desperate angst of the punk subculture. One of the major differentiating factors that set Pheroe apart from similar artists is the poetic channelling of his raw emotions — something that is rarely if at all, explored by his contemporaries. There approach topics from a place of sincerity and seriousness, painting a vivid picture of the lonely void that can result from unreciprocated love and subsequent life experiences. Pheroe seems to use music not only as a means of expression but also as a way to comfort and soothe his listeners. There is somewhat a glance of freedom through his music, using the opportunity to paint a picture like no other. Tantrum will be a stepping stone indeed, offering something of quality to his listeners. The breakout singles off the project in our opinion is “Like This” which sounds like a blend of hip hop and rock influences along with trap, punk, and dream pop. It will be interesting to see and hear what Pheroe plans next but from our listeners and impression, there certainly seems to be a bright future for the young artist!
